I'll memorize it, so why do I need to write it down somewhere?

A very vital situation until recently. I think that it is worthwhile to go from afar and generally think about how limitless our “memory” stock is. It turns out to be very small, if you take this value for everyday tasks. You can look at it with a smile and realize that I was trying to jump ahead of my head, for example memorizing how the binary search algorithm works while I was cooking a meal. It’s really hard to count the number of times I’ve come up with ideas or interesting hypotheses just by poking into the void and thinking about something of my own. But I didn’t write down any of these seemingly “stupid” thoughts, and for nothing. Relatively recently I faced a strong desire to create something new, interesting, maybe even useful and realize it the way I know how - in the form of an application. I seem to have the end goal, means and knowledge, but I did not take into account the most important thing - the idea. Analytic paralysis An individual or group process in which excessive analysis or thinking about a situation can lead to “paralysis” of decision making. As a result, no decision or course of action is taken.

This is most likely what I’ve encountered, an obsession with an idea has gotten me nowhere. And that’s when notes come to the forefront, all those notes that were written at the most seemingly inopportune moment. Unfortunately, at the moment when I needed such a source of information, it did not exist, so naturally I started keeping it, and here are some of the tics that I realized:

Write down thoughts/ideas/etc., even if they seem bad to you:

Every idea is a product of your brain working in the background (I’ll write a post about this later). The best investment in your future is to keep these thoughts as a “collection” for a variety of purposes. You can process them into something better, or you can simply trace how you thought at some point in your life. It’s not impossible that you’ll just forget it, and then realize how valuable it was.

You are not omnipotent:

You won’t be able to say at the snap of a finger that you want to create this, I don’t know what, right now and have it be wow wow wow wow. Or force yourself with the words, “I have to remember this,” to hold interesting thoughts or ideas in your head. Any external stimulus is likely to make you forget what you were thinking 5 minutes ago. So it’s easier to just write it down somewhere.

It’s easier to live your life that way:

Well this is purely imho, for when I started keeping my mini idea diary, I found it much easier. The obsessive thoughts of “remember, remember…” disappeared and a smile appeared on my face) When you go in and see what you have written, new ideas appear and you just can’t stop….

Ultimately the choice is up to you either way. I’m just sharing my experience and I didn’t come to it right away myself. But, if you’ve already thought about it, it’s a clear sign that it’s time ;)
